Set Up Shipping Insurance

Decide when the parcels you send yourself are insured, how much cover to buy, and whether your buyer pays for it. Set it once and every invoice you raise works the charge out for you — you never type the amount in by hand.

Your insurance rule, in six moves

Everything lives on one page. You turn insurance on, say how big an order has to be before it is worth insuring, set your rate, and choose who pays. The seventh box on this page is the one to read carefully — it is about the Vault, and it is already done for you.

1

Open your shipping settings

From your seller tools choose Store settings. Pick Shipping, then Shipping insurance — the row that reads “When and how much to insure the items you ship yourself.”

2

Turn it on

Tick Insure eligible shipments. Leave it unticked and nothing you send yourself is insured — no insurance line appears on your invoices at all.

ℹ

How this works: When enabled, orders you ship yourself that are worth more than your minimum are insured at the rate below. We always calculate the exact charge for you at checkout.

☑ Insure eligible shipments
3

Say how big an order has to be

Only insure orders over ($) is your floor. An order worth more than this is insured; an order sitting exactly on the number is not. The standard rule across The Hobby Network is 1000.00, and that is what you start with.

☰ Store settings ▸ Shipping ▸ Shipping Insurance
Only insure orders over ($)
$1000.00
Orders whose value is strictly greater than this amount are insured.
💡

Sell mostly mid-range cards? Drop it to 250.00 and far more of what you post gets covered. Set it to 0.00 and every order is insured.

4

Set your rate

Insurance rate (% of value) is a percentage, and the decimals matter. 0.500 means half of one percent — not five percent. If you want a flat 1%, type 1.

☰ Store settings ▸ Shipping ▸ Shipping Insurance
Insurance rate (% of value)
0.500%
Percent of item value (e.g. 0.500 = 0.5%).
A $2,000.00 order at 0.500
$10.00
Insurance charged on that shipment.
5

Choose who pays — and whether it is UPS only

Who pays the insurance has two answers. Buyer pays adds the cover to their invoice as its own line, so they can see exactly what it is. Seller absorbs still insures the parcel — the buyer simply is not charged for it.

Underneath, Only insure UPS shipments narrows the rule to UPS parcels. Leave it unticked and the rule covers every carrier you use.

6

Save it

Press Save settings. From that moment on, every invoice you raise works the insurance out from these numbers on its own — you do not enter an amount anywhere, and you cannot get the arithmetic wrong.

Vault sales are separate — and already handled

Items shipped out of the THN Vault always ship UPS and are insured automatically. Nothing on this page changes that, and you never have to set it up. These settings only cover the items you pack and send yourself.

Vault sales are handled for you. Items shipped out of the THN Vault always ship UPS and are insured automatically — these settings cover the items you ship yourself.

0.500 is not 500%The box is a percent, carried to three decimals. 0.500 is half a percent. A flat 1% is just 1.
Exactly on the number is under itYour minimum is a floor to clear, not to reach. At a 1000.00 minimum, a $1,000.00 order is not insured; $1,000.01 is.
Seller absorbs still insuresThe parcel is covered either way. The only difference is whether the cost shows up as a charge to your buyer.
Turning it off is immediateUntick Insure eligible shipments and the next invoice you raise carries no insurance line at all.
Do these settings cover my Vault sales?
No. Anything shipped out of the THN Vault ships UPS and is insured automatically under the platform's own rule. This page is only about the parcels you pack and send yourself.
What happens to an order under my minimum?
It is not insured, and no insurance line appears on the invoice. Only orders worth more than your minimum are covered.
Do I have to work the charge out myself?
Never. The amount is calculated for you from your rate and the value of the order every time an invoice is raised — the figure is not something you type in, so it cannot drift out of step with your settings.
If I tick “Only insure UPS shipments”, what happens before a carrier is chosen?
Where the carrier is not known yet — on an early estimate, for example — the insurance is still included, so a buyer is never quoted a figure that later grows. Once a non-UPS carrier is actually chosen, the insurance drops off.
Can I change my mind later?
Yes, as often as you like. Edit the numbers and press Save settings again. Invoices you have already raised keep the terms they were created under; everything new uses the new rule.
